ERDÖS-BACON NUMBER

A person's Erdös number indicates their distance from mathematician Paul Erdös in a network where ties indicate co-authorship of a paper.  For example, someone who wrote a paper with Paul Erdös has an Erdös number of 1; Someone who wrote a paper with someone who wrote a paper with Paul Erdös has an Erdös number of 2; and so on.  For more information on Erdös numbers, and to find your own, visit: The Erdös Number Project.

Similarly, a person's Bacon number indicates their distance from actor Kevin Bacon in a network where ties indicate co-acting in a movie.  For example, someone who acted in a movie with Kevin Bacon has a Bacon number of 1; someone who acted in a movie with someone who acted in a movie with Kevin Bacon has a Bacon number of 2; and so on.  For more information on Bacon Numbers, and to find your own, visit: The Oracle of Bacon.

I have an Erdös Number of 5:

who wrote a paper with Robert Gibbons,   [LINK]
who wrote a paper with David Cox,   [LINK]
who wrote a paper with Samuel Taylor,   [LINK]

I have a Bacon Number of 3:
I acted alongside George Clooney in Return of the Killer Tomatoes (1988)*,
who acted alongside James Rosin in One Fine Day (1996),
who acted alongside Kevin Bacon in Sleepers (1996).

Combining these two numbers, I have an Erdös-Bacon Number of 8.

* This is, admittedly, a weak link.  The closing scene, in which the protagonist drives off into the sunset, was filmed at Seaport Village in San Diego, CA.  On a family vacation at the time, I was in the crowd of people that can be seen waving goodbye.
