I am a veterinarian graduated from the Universidade do Estado de São Paulo (FCAV - Jaboticabal, Brazil). After practicing large animal veterinary medicine and surgery in Brazil and United States for a few years I became a graduate student at Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. As a Masters student I worked with biomechanical analysis of equine locomotion and studied the effects of lameness on several biomechanical parameters. I joined the ABWG as a PhD student and research assistant in 2003. My research intends to investigate the effects of lameness and its inflammatory pain component on immune cells gene expression profile and behavioral characteristics in dairy cattle. Ultimately, my main objective is to validate biological and behavioral parameters to assist with pain assessment in animals.
