Other News:

The Michigan State Spartans started the second half of their season after a two-week break with a strong 6-0 win over Central Michigan University. This puts the team at 6-0, with 59 power points. MSU travels to Iowa City this weekend to play the University of Iowa and Butler, both quality opponents. The next two Wednesdays wrap up both MSU's division play and in-state play with games against Grand Valley State (10/15) and Michigan (10/22).

*Tuesday, September 30th, 2008 : MSU start season strong, 5-0 record with 49 power ranking points, first place in power rankings in the region

The Michigan State Spartans finished their month of September with a 5-0 record, receiving max points on every game except against Western Michigan (9 points). The team is ranked first in the region in power points, and looks to carry their winning streak into October, where they have 7 games before regionals, and the opponents get increasingly tougher. the next game is October 8th, against Central Michigan University

*Monday August 25, 2008: Fall 2008 Schedule Released, MSU looks to rebuild and re focus after last seasons' early exit

The Michigan State Spartans fall schedule was released today featuring 4 home games against intra-state rivals, Central Michigan, Western Michigan, Grand Valley State, and Ferris State University. They will also be traveling to Iowa City, Iowa as well as South Bend, Indiana and Dayton, Ohio this fall with hopes of earning a bid to the regional tournament in Bloomington, Indiana on November 1-2, 2008. After a tight second place finish last year and back to back division championships during their 2006 and 2007 campaigns, you can bet that the Spartans have their minds set on November and a bid to Tuscaloosa, Alabama for a shot at the 2008 National Championship. Michigan State finished 10-1-1 in the regular season last year. They also lost 13 Seniors to graduation.

Tuesday October 30, 2007: Regional Tournament performance not enough to send the No. 5 Spartans to Pensacola

The weekend results are in. Unfortunately the Spartans are not. A dominant win against Bowling Green and a 1-1 draw against third ranked Illinois, haulted Michigan States chances at winning Regionals and earning a spot in the National Tournament in three weeks. It seemed as if nothing less than a win was acceptable, as the University of Michigan went 3-1 en route to a Regional Championship as well as a shot to make another deep run at Nationals. This season the Spartans had high hopes and high potential, however have also had a lot of adversity to overcome. Even though dissapointment is embedded among the players, this squad has won Back to Back Central Division titles, has gone 20-3-6 in two seasons, including 19 shuouts. It won't be easy, but with 13 seniors collecting diplomas in May, the returning players and the MSU soccer club is looking forward to a positive future and look to continue the legacy that these boys have left behind.

Wednesday October 24, 2007: Spartans draw BOWLING GREEN and familiar foe ILLINOIS in 1st round of regionals

It doesn't get any bigger than this weekend for the (10-1-1) Michigan State Spartans. Similar to their (10-1-1) record entering the 2006 regional tournament, the team is in a MUST WIN situation through out the remainder of the season. Because of the Spartans 5th place ranking among this weekends line-up, some help may also be needed by Indiana, UW-Milwaukee, Indiana, or Ohio State if MSU happens to fall early. Last season, MSU was a last second goal (vs. Western Michigan) from advancing to nationals, however an offensive drought, resulted in the team tying it's last 4 games of the season. This years squad however as a new attitude and confidence and looks to erase the Bloomington curse that has seemed to devestate MSU teams down there in the past. Michigan State will look to avenge last years early exit when they take on Bowling Green State University at 10:00am in Bloomington. They are also slated to wrap up round-robin play in what should be the game of the week-end against the University of Illinois at 6:00pm. The Spartans are looking to send the Illini home early after they spoiled MSU's season with a devestating forfeit loss issued on Sunday October 21. As for the SPARTANS: "Every minute of every game, every shot, every goal, every substitution, every comment, every decision.... every SPARTAN" Go get em' boys, show the country WHO and WHAT East Lansing is made of. GO GREEN!

Wednesday October 24, 2007: SPARTANS CLINCH 2ND STRAIGHT DIVISIONAL TITLE

It was a weekend of seconds for the Michigan State Men's Club Soccer Team. Saturday's win over the Purdue Boilermakers marked the second season in a row that the Spartans beat Purdue 2-0, the second season in a row the team won the M.A.S.C. Central Division championship, it also marked the second season in a row that the team missed an automatic bid to nationals with an impressive 10-1-1 record. The teams only loss coming off a 1-0 forfeit loss to Illinois. The Spartans finished the regular season with 9 shutouts, 32 goals for, and just 3 goals against. The team will be heading to Bloomington, Indiana this weekend for regional tournament action.

Friday October 19, 2007: WEEKEND PREVIEW: Big Weekend will effect Rankings and National Tournament hopes

The team will be looking to earn full points against Purdue this weekend. The Spartans are 20 points out of being the number one team in the Region. If the team can pull off a huge win this weekend, they will have one game left against National Powerhouse Illinois to have a crack at 1st place. Not looking to far into the future, the Illinois/ Michigan State game has potential for a season finale battle for Pensacola, the winning team a probable for the National Tournament in November. The Purdue Boilermakers enter this weekends game 6-2-1 while the Spartans boast an impressive 9-0-1 record coming off a dominant victory over Grand Valley State last weekend. The Michigan Wolverines will be hosting the game this weekend Saturday October 20 @ 10:00am in Ann Arbor. GO GREEN!

Thursday October 18, 2007: SPARTANS TIE MICHIGAN, Division and National Championship Hopes still linger

The Spartans posted a 2-2 tie against the Michigan Wolverines last Wednesday and dominated the Lakers of Grand Valley this past Sunday 5-0. This puts the Spartans in good position to make a statement in the national rankings as well as gain momentum going into the Regional Tournament next weekend in Bloomington, Indiana. The Spartans remain in 1st place in the Central division however droped 3 spots in the M.A.S.C. Regional Power Rankings (6th Place), with only one confirmed game left on the schedule which is Saturday October 20, 2007 against Purdue in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The game with the University of Illinois is still TBA at this time.

Tuesday October 09, 2007: MSU remains underfeated despite shortened weekend

The weekends results are in, and the Spartans roll to 8-0. Following a miscommunication with the Lakers of Grand Valley, and the Xavier Musketers being plagued with Injuries, the Michigan State Men's Club soccer team earned a forfeit (1-0) win over Xavier. The game against Grand Valley has been rescheduled to Sunday October 13 in Grand Rapids, and the Illinois game is TBA at this time.

Tuesday October 03, 2007: After 7-0 start Spartans look ahead to Grand Valley State

The Michigan State Spartans Men's Club team is off to another brilliant start to their 2007 campaign for the National Championship. The Squad is currently 7-0 and hungry for more as they look to take on the Lakers of Grand Valley State University on Wednesday at 5:30pm in Grand Rapids.
