We are always delighted to hear from people interested in giving one of our wonderful rottweilers a responsible, lifelong home! When we rescue a dog, we make it a lifelong promise that it will never have to suffer again. We also promise to find the highest quality family. The first step in the adoption process is completion of our adoption application. Families will only be considered who share our philosophies, have a securely fenced yard, and superior vet references. You will be asked to give one of our volunteers a home and yard tour. If all goes well, you will be invited to meet our dogs. All family members, including pets (which must be altered), are requested to visit the dogs available for adoption to ensure compatibility. Please allow at least an hour for your visit although you are welcome to stay longer. This helps to ensure the best possible match of dog and family. Please remember that rottweilers bond more completely than any other breed of dog, becoming deeply attached and devoted to their family. They were bred to share in all aspects of their family's daily life - being with you in your home and going with you when you go out. They thrive on being near you, a head or paw in your lap. If you feel you may not truly enjoy having a dog's constant companionship, enjoy having him sleep in your bedroom at night and share many of your activities by day, then you may be happier with a breed less oriented to human companionship.
We require that our dogs go to homes with securely fenced yards. Whether you live in the city or in the country, no rottweiler can safely be left to run 'free' without your direct supervision and control. The price of such 'freedom' is inevitably injury or death: from automobiles, from the Animal Shelter or from justifiably irate neighbors. Like other working breeds, rottweilers have an inherited instinct to herd. The unfenced country rottweiler will sooner or later discover the neighbor's livestock (sheep, cattle, horses, poultry). State law gives the livestock owner the legal right to kill any dog chasing or 'worrying' his stock or 'running' deer on his property. And folks are quick to act on this right. The unfenced city rottweiler may exercise his herding instinct on joggers, bicyclists, and automobiles. An unfenced rottweiler is always destined for disaster.
Additionally we require that your rottweiler be kept indoors when you are not home and that he be under your careful supervision whenever he is outdoors. Pets, dogs and cats alike, are being taken from homes across America. The statistics are grim. Of the over two million animals stolen each year, only 10% are ever found again. Pet theft occurs from locked yards, even when the owners are home. The millions of pets who are stolen and never recovered are typically used in medical experimentation, product testing, dogfighting, or for sadistic rituals. Class 'B' dealers, also known as 'bunchers' are people who make their livelihood by selling pets to research facilities. These unscrupulous people think nothing of taking pets from people's yards. They make a large profit selling these hapless animals. We cannot urge you strongly enough to be careful and protect your rottweiler at all times.
We have a minimal adoption fee for our rottweilers. This fee offsets a fraction of the costs associated with altering; heartworm testing and monthly prevention; basic vaccines and parasite control; microchipping; shelter impound fees; heartworm adulticide, orthopedic surgery and/or any other necessary medical procedures and care and feeding premium food. After adoption we are always available to assist and advise our adoptive families in every way we can. And satisfaction is guaranteed! If for any reason an adoption does not work out, we want the animal back.
