Dr. Siegford coordinates, develops and teaches online and face-to-face courses in animal welfare and behavior. She currently teaches an undergraduate face-to-face course on Applied Animal Behavior (ANS 305) and a graduate online course on Animal Welfare Assessment (ANS 805). Dr. Siegford and the other members of the online course development team received an honorable mention in the 2006 SBC Awards for Instructional Technology Competition.

Dr. Siegford’s research examines the impacts of management practices and environment on the behavior and welfare of production animals. Dr. Siegford also works to develop non-invasive, automated methods for collecting behavior and welfare data from animals in their home environments. Currently she is working to develop a wireless sensor that can provide information about individual laying hens in non-cage housing systems. She is also studying the behavior of dairy cows in a robotic pasture-based milking system, with particular attention to behaviors that affect efficiency of robot use. With a team of colleagues, Dr. Siegford is studying the relationship between temperament, cow-calf interactions and performance traits in beef cattle,  She has previously examined the effects of non-abrupt weaning strategies on the behavior and performance of beef cattle. In addition to her work on production species, Dr. Siegford also performs research on the behavior and welfare of companion animals, including use of temperament tests in shelters for both dogs and cats…..more on Dr. Siegford's research and publications
