The College Insider

A step by step guide prepared by the MSU College of Education for high school juniors and seniors. It defines the different types of colleges and provides an overview of financial, academic, and social factors that need to be considered when exploring college options.

MSU's Counseling Center

The Counseling Center has prepared a list of problems that can be experienced by first year students along with suggestions of ways parents can help their students deal with them.

FERPA

MSU complies fully with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). FERPA, also known as the Buckley Amendment, is a U.S. federal law that governs access to, and confidentiality of, a student's records. Such things as grades, enrollment records, schedules and classlists cannot be disclosed to third parties without permission of the student. Unless a student has signed a FERPA release form, MSU faculty and staff may not share information about a student's academic record. The Office of the Ombudsman and the Registrar's Office have lists with frequently asked questions about FERPA.

Financial Aid Calculators

The Office of Financial Aid has provided parents and students with a calculator that can be used to estimate the cost of attending Michigan State University. The Office of Admissions also has a cost estimator calculator along with information on ways to finance your student's college costs.
