It really has been a long time, I think I first saw the turtles was back when I was in fifth grade. I was either home sick (real or faking it I don't remember) or there was no school that day, but I remember laying on my parents bed and watching TV. It was a old TV with no Remote and only a dial to change the channel, so when the program I was watching ended I (being a lazy person) kept it on the same channel. I must have left the room because I never saw the beginning theme song. But I do remember seeing four green turtle like people talking to a girl in a yellow cover all. My firsts thought oh no it's a boys show (hey that is a big thing when you're in fifth grade). But still being to lazy to change the channel I kept in on, and to my surprise I really liked it. I have tried to remember what the episode was but it was so long ago and my mind is not that accurate. All I remember is there was something like a amusement park and they were taking to April (the name of the girl in the yellow cover all). Well after discovering I liked this "boys show" I was slightly embarrassed, but then my sister got hooked on it and I reasoned that maybe it was not a boys show after all.
Well then came the years of mass advertising. It seemed that every where you looked you could find something turtle related. But I was in middle school by then and never really got to much stuff, in fact I think the only thing I ever got was a coloring book, there was more stuff in my house however I used my sister as a out, she got all the toys and stuff I felt to weird or to old to get for my self (thinking I was old in Middle school, that just seems funny now). I did record some of the cartoon episodes, my sister missed them when she went to drawing classes. But still I was, and have always been more of a inward fan than a out word one. We also got the Ninja Turtles Magazine, but back then I never knew about the comic book. All I really knew about was stuff based off the cartoon.
Then came the Movie, I remember going and loving it only I was a bit confused as to why Splinter was not Hamato Yoshi like he was in the cartoon, why was he only Yoshis pet and not Yoshi himself. I never discovered the answer to that until only recently, when I looked up some comic book pages. Then (I think) came the Coming out of their shells tour. Yep we went to Pizza Hut and got the tape, we listened to to constantly, I think I still have all the songs memorized even thow I have not herd them in years. We did not go to the live show but we do have the tape of it. Here is what's on the back of the box. here they are! The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live on stage! The complete theatrical stage show, filled with songs and excitement. Over 90 minutes of non stop thrills and chills as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Master Splinter and reporter April O'Neil sing and dance their way to victory over the evil shredder. Direct form Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Back when we first got this we (my sister and I) documented every mistake they made in this live recording. Then out came TMNT2 and at the time I thought it was even better than the original. I held to that up until recently when I re watched all three movies. Oh, I still think number two is good , and it was made when turtles was still very big. On to number three, This one I never quite liked, I mean the plot was okkay but it could not compare to the first two. Well aside form the movies I went on with me watching the cartoons for a long time, but then they got canceled. It seemed like that was end.
There were years of time with nothing and it seemed as thow they were lost, then one Saturday morning I Re found them, it was a new cartoon show. They tried to make it darker and they even showed clips from the first movie in the opening. Wow I closed my door and watched. It was a little strange they like mutated again when they got mad and there was another friend Carter who did the same. I watched it a few times when I got up early enough but I never made a point of it, I just was not very interested in the cartoon, I mean I thought it was good and all but I pretty much thought turtles were gone, and this was like a last hold out of a dying thing and it would soon be gone. (I did however really like one episode where they traveled in time. I am a sucker for time travel). As I predicted the show was canceled and I thought that was that.
Here I was proved wrong once more as I herd about a new live action show. Now by this time I was in collage and my classes conflicted with the times they showed it. I saw some of the shows and and thought it was okkay a little like the third movie but it had its moments. It was more me, I was really not a fan any more like I had been for the first and second movies. Then one night I get a E-mail from my sister telling me about this great fan fiction she found on the internet. She gave me the address and told me I had to read it, it was so cool. She said it was about turtles but it was so good. I let it sit for a few days and then decided I would give it a look at. So I typed in the address and started looking, Wow was all I could say, it was as good if not better than the first movie. And just like that I was sucked into a whole new realm of turtles that I never knew existed, fan fiction. What is this story that brought me back well I will gladly give a plug it was called Now and Forever and is written by Dawn Jados You have to read it and its sequel here I will even give you a link to the authors page, a very good page full of cool info Dawnatello's page . Well now I was hooked I read her fanfic in like four days then went on to read some others (links on my fanfic page).
Here is a interesting story, I had a Animal Science class and our unit was on horses. Now I knew nothing about horses and was on the internet looking up some stuff so I could be ready for class when, like magic I found a fanfic about Equestrian Turtles (called "Hi No De" and written by Sharee). So I went to check it out and man it was like the strangest thing, I would learn something in class and then come back to my room and read the story and what I had just learned about would be used in the story! Reinforcing what I just learned. It was so cool this was actuarially helping me learn. My sister said I was going overboard and she was sorry she ever gave me the address to the first fanfic. but I did not care. I was having so much fun, at last the turtles were presented in a way I really loved. Now I am a fanfic fan I love them so much I had to try and do my own. Well that brings us up to date.
