We, like many other student organizations, always hold an informational meeting on campus prior to the start of auditions (usually within a week of the first day). At this meeting we present basic information about our organization and what it means to be a part of it. This is an absolutely perfect opportunity to meet the team and ask any questions you may have for us! If possible, all current Spartan Soul members attend the informational. First things first, REQUIREMENTS! STOP!–Before you even CONSIDER auditioning for Spartan Soul, there are two very important facts you MUST KNOW:
  • REGARDLESS of your talent, potential, etc., you ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE A 2.3
CUMULATIVE MSU GPA AT THE TIME OF YOUR AUDITION in order to be accepted as a member of Spartan Soul. We are all students first, and we feel your academic performance must be stable before you commit to an active organization. (If you audition as a first-semester freshman, we will accept your high school GPA.)
  • There is a MANDATORY, NON-REFUNDABLE $15 APPLICATION FEE WHICH MUST BE PAID BEFORE YOU ATTEND THE LEARNING SESSIONS FOR OUR AUDITION ROUTINE.
Learning the Audition Routine (2 days!)
Monday, September 12th in IM Circle Upper Gym from 7-9pm and Tuesday, September 13th in IM Circle Dance Room 218 from 7-9pm.

Two two-hour sessions are scheduled to learn our tryout routine. You will learn primarily from Spartan Soul’s choreographer, but the remainder of the team is present for guidance and assistance.

What to wear: Dress to SWEAT!
What to bring: $15 APPLICATION FEE, Water, Knee pads (volleyball style, available at Meijer), Sweat towel (if needed).

TRYOUTS! September 15th Location TBA 7-9pm
You will perform the tryout routine before the team in a small group of two or three. You will be judged by Spartan Soul’s executive board on a point system which factors in stage presence/smiling, confidence, cognizance of the routine, neatness, toe touches, splits, etc. There are two portions to Spartan Soul callbacks: 1)The Interview, 2) Creative Routine.

Those who score high enough to advance to callbacks will answer a short series of questions similar to those you might encounter in a job interview. The interview is designed to assess students’ mental preparedness to join our organization. Talent potential and mental potential are EQUALLY important when it comes to being a member of Spartan Soul. The executive board evaluates potential members’ answers on a point system based on how thoroughly and appropriately they answer the questions.

In callbacks, prospective team members will be responsible for creating their own routine using the criteria and guidelines given by Spartan Soul.. The executive board judges on a point system which factors in creativity, rhythm, dance abilities, form, presentation, stage presence, etc.

New members are notified of their acceptance by phone or e-mail. KEEP IN MIND, SHORTLY AFTER MAKING THE TEAM, NEW MEMBERS WILL BE ISSUED A DEADLINE FOR MEMBERSHIP DUES. ALL MEMBERS pay an annual fee and dues every year. The amounts vary, but are always higher for new members due to purchase of uniform materials.

Discrimination Clause
Any MSU student may become a member of Spartan Soul. The organization will not discriminate on the basis of age, race, gender, handicapper status, height, marital status, national origin, political persuasion, sexual orientation, veteran status, or weight.
