Experience
As a graduate student in the Department of History at Université Cheikh Anta Diop (UCAD), Dakar , Senegal , I served for three years as Assistant to the Resident Director of the Kalamazoo College Study Abroad Program in Senegal . In the meantime, I worked in a research team on the history of marginality and exclusion in Senegal, co-chaired by Prof. Ibrahima Thioub and Prof. Ousseynou Faye, for the establishment of the Groupe d'Études et de Recherches sur la Marginalité et l'Exclusion au Senegal (GERMES), of which I am still a member.
Since 2002, I am working as Assistant Coordinator of the Université Cheikh Anta Diop (UCAD)-Michigan State University (MSU) Strategic Partnership. This linkage program is supported by the Office of the Provost, the Vice-President for Research and Graduate Studies, the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the African Studies Center , and MATRIX - The Center for Humane Arts, Letters, and Social Sciences Online. So far, it has made significant progress on various fronts including, Intellectual Property, Food Safety, Biosafety, Natural Products Research, Water quality, Remote Sensing, Agriculture, Internet training, and Grant-writing. The Coordinator of the partnership is Prof. David Robinson, History and African Studies, MSU.
I also collaborate in two MATRIX projects in Senegal (African Online Digital Library; Internet and Women's Democratic Organizing) and took an active part in training women organizations leaders and faculty at UCAD in web designing and the use of Internet technologies in their respective activities.
In my capacity as a librarian I did some consultancy in Senegal . I have also worked as Assistant-Librarian with the Africana section of Michigan State University 's Main Library every summer since 2003. I am co-editor (with Peter Limb) of the "A-Z of African Studies on the Internet", a regularly updated and widely-cited and used Internet guide to African studies.
