The Silver Eagles Drill Team started at MSU in the spring of 1984, under the name Golden Talon, after a few motivated cadets participated in a special drill for Lansing’s 125th Birthday Parade. Since drill and ceremonies play an important role in AFROTC training, these cadets felt that a drill team would give other cadets a chance to excel in their marching abilities.

The Drill Team stresses the perfection of basic precision drill. The Team then moves on to special drills, which are designed to provide a challenge to those cadets who wish to advance beyond basic maneuvers. The members perform these drills for the public. Silver Eagles participates in marches, parades, and performs color guards at MSU football, hockey, basketball, soccer and other functions around the MSU area. They are also involved in competition between other university detachments.

As a pledge, and hopefully an eventual active member of the Silver Eagles Drill Team, you will not only learn the basic marching commands, but special moves also. Drill and ceremonies are important for field training and pledging Drill Team is a good way to get an edge. This organization also promotes unity within itself, as well as the Corps as a whole.
