MSU Safe Place receives support for a new van!

--February 2008--

Michigan State University Safe Place (MSUSP) has been offering the following services on campus since 1994 to adults and their minor aged children victimized by domestic violence and/or stalking: emergency shelter, counseling, support group, safety planning, transportation, child care and advocacy services. Education, professional trainings, internship placements and volunteer opportunities are also provided.

In December 2007 the Safe Place van was beyond repair and no longer safe to drive. As a result, some of the transportation and advocacy services that MSUSP usually offered came to a standstill. A plea went out to the community for donations. The Office of the Provost and the Office of Finance and Operations each gave a generous donation of $2,000 to fund a replacement vehicle. In February 2008 this $4,000 donation, along with other financial donations and Safe Place funds, led to the purchase of a 2004 Dodge Caravan from MSU Motor Pool to transport clients in and around the East Lansing area for advocacy assistance appointments.

MSUSP would like to thank the Office of the Provost, Office of Finance and Operations, and MSU Motor Pool for assisting is in obtaining a safe and reliable vehicle. If anyone is interested in donating to MSUSP, call 355-1100 ext. 2, or send an email to noabuse@edu.
