TC 840 Foundations of Digital Media Arts

Foundational technology, design concepts and skills unique to and common across video, audio, multimedia, and 3-D animation/virtual reality. Concepts include human-computer interaction, the architecture of digital media, the production cycle, the applications of digital media. Tools covered include Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Director, Final Cut Pro. The hands-on projects focus on the creation of digital media, given the current state of hardware and software tools.

Design of digital media arts projects in video, audio, multimedia, 3-D animation/virtual reality and other new media. Proposal development, team building, project management and workflow methods, production techniques and evaluative methods in the creation of media projects.

TC 841 Design Research for Digital Media Arts and Technology

Research methods used by design teams for asking and answering questions related to digital media arts and technology--before, during, and after design of creative work. The design goals and the design prototype are tested to guide development and evaluate effectiveness. The projects involved secondary research, task analysis, persona analysis, use cases and use case scenarios and focus group analysis related to media products.

TC 891 Virtual Flash Design Studio

Flash as the design tool to teach design for meaning and aesthetics, design for functionality, and design for user experience. Topics covered include fonts and typography, animation, color and layout, mouse interactivity, and advanced scripting.

TC 447 3D Graphics and Simulation

The course blends high-level concepts with hands-on instruction and activities. Topics include design of objects and environments for use as 3-D graphic artwork, computer animation, and real-time, interactive virtual environments: 3-D modeling, texturing, lighting, object animation, character animation, real time interaction design from gaming, simulation, and immersive virtual environments. The technical implementation details focuses on 3DS Max and Director Shockwave 3D.

Design, architecture, and creation concepts related to the development of interactive digital games. Topics include anatomy of a game, types of games, game design theory and concepts, game algorithms, game delivery environments, and the game industry.

TC 862 Information Networks and Electronic Commerce

Graduate level introduction to the definition, history, and current status of e-commerce, business models in e-commerce, and the impacts of e-commerce on consumers, firms and industries.

TC 491 Internet Design and Technologies

Designing and developing applications for the internet. Topics include internet infrastructure, client-side technologies, server-side technologies, dynamic content generation, embedded media, page design, site design, content design, usability, emerging technologies, and more.Additional topics include HTML, JavaScript, and style sheets with an introduction to CGI, SSI, XML, and Flash.

TC 491 Webcasting

Introduction to the rapidly growing field of video broadcasting over the web, also known as webcasting. Topics include audio and video codecs, server configurations, progressive download vs. real-time streaming, unicast vs. multicast, live events/live encoding vs. archived video/offline encoding, hardware and software requirements, combining video with interactive technologies.
