Scott Potter's Trip to Russia

In August of 1994, I travelled with the Boy Scouts to ex-Communist nation of Russia. The duration of the trip was 18 days and was one of the most exciting adventures I had ever embarked on in my life. We started off by flying out of Detroit, Michigan, to London (Gatwick), England. From there we flew to Frankfurt, Germany, and were delayed for several hours for what the airline said was routine maintenance, but we think it was a bomb threat. Why else would the gate be roped off my dozens of military officers carrying machine guns and sniffing dogs?! Once that ordeal was over, we were flown to Moscow, Russia, where we waited in line for several hours to get through customs.

For the next three days, we toured Moscow and stayed in a youth hostel. We visited the Russian Congress building, the Kremlin, Red Square, the Moscow Circus, and many other sites within the city. After that, there was an 8 hour overnight train ride up to St. Petersburg, where we stayed with host families for three days and nights. There we saw the Hermitage, the town of Pushkin, Peter and Paul Fortress, the Summer Palace, and the closing ceremonies for the Goodwill Games complete with a spectacular fireworks display.. The trip then took us about an hour north to Lake Ladoga where we camped at the First Russian International Jamboree for the next 10 days and 9 nights. The following pages are a good deal of the photographs that I took while I was over there. Eventually, I hope to have all 150 up, with thumbnails of course, but for now I have about 40 or so. Anyways, enjoy!!

If you enjoy the pictures or have any suggestions, please email me at potters2@egr.msu.edu and let me know. Thanks, Scott.
