This is just your average Reel Big
Fish album. They do try some new things and it works out pretty
well. There are more guitars in most of the songs than in their
last album. In a few of their songs, basically "Song #3",
they have a Jamaican sound to them and Coolie Ranx of Pilfers
guest stars on vocals. It's a bit different but still sounds
good. Even though this album is more upbeat than Turn The
Radio Off it still keeps the same old RBF attitude of not
caring and being sell outs.
Most of the songs are upbeat. They
sort of confuse you a little because in a few of the songs the
beginning has a big guitar thing so you might think that this
song isn't going to have any horns but then a great horn section
comes in and the song is awesome. The horns and guitars evens
themselves out and it all falls into place beautifully. There are
no real slow songs. Even the song "I'm Cool" speeds and
ends up rockin' at the end. In the beginning of a song you might
not like it but by the time its over, you'll be loving' it.
The lyrics are average Reel Big
Fish lyrics. Basically talking about selling out, hating people,
life in general, and girls. They are somewhat immature,
especially the song "Scott's A Dork", which just makes me
laugh every time I hear it. But RBF is immature and if you want
something more serious then don't listen to this album. The song "We
Care" is humorous but still sort of shows that the band is
thoughtful. Since, RBF hates moshing at their shows they made the
song "Thank You For Not Moshing", which is funny because
it picks on the trendy people that thinks that moshing is cool.
((moshing is stupid)). From girl trouble, to hating the trendies,
to even loving' the fans, the RBF lyrics in this album are
everything you could ask for with some humor to go.
The songs still have the punk/ska
sound as in their last album, but there are more guitars. The
guitars give their sound a more upbeat happy sound and really
adds to the music. The horn section still rocks so they really
haven't changed much. "Big Star" is slow until the middle
of it then it starts to rock. There are no songs that are slow
throughout the whole entire thing. The last song "Victory Over
Peter Bones" is an instrumental remix i think of an old
orchestra tune...it gets kind of annoying after a while but it's
still a good end. The real ending is better, the last track, 17
(not listed on the album) is a tape of various stupid off-stage
antics by the band, some little cute songs and other funny jokes.
It is quite humorous.
When i pop this cd in my cd player
there are no songs that i automatically skip to. I like them all
the same. On average, this album was good. If you are a real Reel
Big Fish fan then you will find this album as no real difference,
a bit of a change but nothing too serious. And even if you aren't
a fan you will still probably fall in love with this album.
