Sponge-Wax Ecstatic

The voice of Sponge, courtesy of Vinnie Dombroski, help make their sound difinitive. From the first lines of My Purity to the soft vocals in Velveteen, Vinnie is diverse enough to flow through the music and cut into your ears.
Great guitar riffs, like in Wax Ecstatic and My Purity make great background noises and make the songs sound more complex. I must admit that most of the songs sound the same, but they are different enough so it isn't annoying. The background/foreground heavy guitar chords in Silence Is Their Drug gives the song attitude. With the cute-little guitar riff in the background also, the song is almost Faith No More-esque. Velveteen is a great slow and melodic acoustic tune. A great last song. Have You Seen Mary is also another slow song and is a great example of Vinnie's strong vocals.
There is a small theme of drugs (like, pills) and drag queens, in some of the lyrics, and titles. Most of the songs aren't catchy enough to be considered radio-friendly, but do sound vaguely familiar like they were played on the radio a lot before. My Baby Said and The Drag Queens Of Memphis show off Sponge's good bass lines. My Baby Said even throws in some extra horns.
Basically, this is a great album with lots of musical extras. It's more into the rock genre and I know it would be liked, if given the chance. If you like Wax Ecstatic, then you're sure to fall in love with the rest of the album.
