MxPx-Slowly Going The Way Of The Buffalo

MxPx's newest album, with new stuff, isn't much of a departure form their usual style, but they stayed the same in a good way.

The music is pretty much basic MxPx. Use of good drums, heavy chords, solo bass riffs, and everynow and then a catchy background guitar riff. The lead singer, Mike Herrara, who also is the bassist of the band, has a good voice for the songs they sing. Under Lock And Key is a basic MxPx song and his voice works great with it. One of the more, non-MxPx-ish songs on the album is Fist Vs Tact where the guys try a heavier sound. The music is great, and so isn't Mike's voice, but I think the drums really sttandout on this song. This is also shown in The Downfall Of Western Civilization.

If you're going to talk about the lyrics, I'd have to use the word "inspirational", even if it does sound lame. One of the main reasons why I love MxPx songs is because of the lyrics. They rae very down-to-erath, direct, and seem to be on the same level as you. Tomorrow's Another Day is a quite motivational song, with lyrics like, "Another chance to make things right, A chance to make sense of last night". On a more depressing/realistic note, there is The Final Slowdance and Cold And All Alone. Both are about departing relationships.

It's been said that you're a coporate rock band if you have one word song titles. Mxpx, is definitely one. There is not one one-word title on this album and most consist of three or more. Most of the titles don't really have anything to do with the songs, but who said that's a bad thing.

I think you should actually be an MxPx fan when getting this album, but there is enough of a change of style to appeal to most people. Not all of the songs have that catchy attractivenss which'll grab your attention. After listening to it a few times, you learn to love it.
