Self - Subliminal Plastic Motives

This album speaks for itself. It goes in and out of music styles and is quite creative. It's definitely a good album.

In the music aspect, you have to call it ecclectic. Borateen comes on strong with heavy guitars. Big Important Nothing startes with a quite creative techno/piano intro. Self combine guitars with synthesizing effects and smooth vocals. It's a great coombination. Some tracks are slow, some are fast. There is no all-the-way-through slow song. They're all quite creative.

The lyrics are great. So Low is a bit depressing but both Mother Nature's Fault and Sophomore Jinx seem to have a Reel Big Fish lyrics scheme to it. Semi-Mocking the music industry and the record itself. Marathon Shirt doesn't really make sense but its still good. The lyrics are about life and the bands experiences, in general. Stewardess is kinda funny in a Blink 182 immature boy way.

The songs are pretty good too. Very diverse and strange in their own way. In almost all of them they have a slow bridge interlude. Motther Nature's Fault is a semi-humorous tune which iis the opposite attitude from So Low which is is actually humorous and depressing at the same time.

Overall, this album was creatively stunning. No matter what music you like you'll probably fall in love with at least one Self song. I don't know how to describe their sound but it's nothing artficial. 100% pure originality, well, almost.
