This album is a
mix of everything. From ska, to swing, to rock, this album has it
all. There's not too much of one thing. Save Ferris makes all
three music types sound great together.
The ska part, the trumpets & trombones, give the songs
attitude. The rock part, the guitars & drums, give the songs
rhythm & power. The semi-swing part, the bass, gives the
songs strength. The bass is very important in songs like "Goodbye",
"Super Spy", and "Lies", among several others.
Monique Powell's voice is completely amazing. She'll sing her
heart out, reaching the high notes, and doesn't try to cover up
her voice.
From my interpretation, most of the album is basically about
starting over and trying to forget/get over people in your life. "Spam"
definitely has creative & original lyrics. The lyrics of this
album as a whole are quite different. From the funny lyrics of "Spam, "";Spam, it's pink & it's oval.
Spam, I buy it at the mobil," to the sort of sad lyrics of "Goodbye",
"Goodbye; I don't wanna be your friend. So long; now we've
reached the end." Well, no matter what it is, practically
anything will sound great with Monique singing it.
Including the cover of "Come On Eileen", most of the songs
are diverse. "Super Spy" and "Goodbye" are swing,
where as "Under 21" is kind of rock/ska. The whole album
is upbeat, with no real slow songs.
Overall, this album was pretty good. There barely was any
experimentation, just purely good music by a good band. The music, lyrics, and Monique's voice sound
great together and every member of Save Ferris
makes this album what it is.
