One of the first surprises was its length, at a mere 28minutes. One has to ask, however, would you really want to listen to 50 minutes of this pop-harmonious nonsense? Neither would I. Harmonious is an understatement. There are many a variety of various melody-sing-a-along vocals. (i.e. 'ooh' 'hip hip' 'oh baby'). Granted these are catchy and fun, they cause the already nonsensical lyrics to appear worse.
The music is still pure yet simple. Again it is unfortunate that front man Rivers Cuomo chose to rely solely on power chords as well as unoriginal melody-ridden solos. It hurts to listen because I know that Weezer are better than this. Although the songs are catchy, they are not radio-friendly catchy. They are at a middle point between good and bad points of popularity.
Another unfortunate aspect is the lyrics. Rivers stated that he wanted to focus more on the music than the lyrics of future recordings. That is understandable logic, except that the music of this album isn't anything spectacular. The lyrics, though, are pure nonsense.
To conclude, there are wonderful harmonies, unoriginal solos, but pure fun unadulterated Weezer rock. The Green album has to be taken at face value. The lyrics are meaningless and the music half-assed. However, it is not such a disappointment to give up on the band - that is what Maladroit is for.
