All Music Guide says:
There's really no reason why their one album shouldn't have done better than it did. It opens with the absolutely glorious title track, a perfect amalgam of crunchy power chords and soaring, cathartic melody.
Songwriter Seth Freeman's voice is nothing to write home about, but at least he doesn't sing with a fake British accent like Billie Joe Armstrong does
nosmiles agrees: The music is good, quite good actually. It's fun rock, real rock, with a pinch of poppiness. The poppiness is really due to its catchiness, which unlike mainstream music, does not kill it's potential to be real music.
This album features a new drummer and bassist. The bass lines add nice depth to the music and unlike some other bands, actually stand out. The music is not sporadic and different with every song, no false advertising here. It is melodic rock at its prettiest, even with unpretty, male vocals.
Although Little John may not be exceptional, what popular music nowadays is? None that I can think of. The music may not be original, but it is creative, unique to itself, and good; quality matters. Not every song has a catchy hook, and not just those with the hooks are good.
My only complaint is that the album goes fast. The songs are different, but not quite different enough so they tend to blend together. Of course the songs are short as well, but I'd rather have them short than drone on and on.
In summary, if you see a Little John CD somewhere, grab it. It's nothing spectacular, but then again, neither is linkin' park.
