As I am not much of a techno fan, I surprisingly did enjoy this album. Most of the
tunes ended up stuck in my head so I couldn't hate them. The music
is great and diverse. The few vocals that are
on the album flow with the music and help breakup the beats. Even
the semi-digitalized voice in "Kalifornia" works great
with the rest of the song. Some songs on this album are
dancing music and others are movie-soundtrack music.
Almost all of the songs have definitive lyrics that go along with
the song and song-title. "Love Island" has a great soft
introduction, then goes into a great "get up &
dance" beat that just breaks in and catches your
attention. The humorously-annoying-obscene tune, "In
Heaven", aside from the lyrics, has a great musical
catchiness that actually works. Also, the little radio
station thing at the end of "Right Here, Right Now" is
cute and shows off Cook's sense of humour.
"Praise You" does not represent the album, although "Rockefeller Skank" definitely does. This album isn't a pure dance album, but one you can actually listen to as well.
