Rating: 7/10
If you've heard "My Own Summer (Shove It)",
then you've heard the entire album. There is
no deceiving their sound. With whispery vocals and pounding
music, the Deftones bring you beautifully original music. All that is missing is that exta 'oomph' to make it kick. Around the Fur is a perfect sophomore release. The ear pounding beat, whispery & eerie vocals, awesome gutars, and piercing screams are just a bit of what you should expect when listening to this album.
The vocals are somber yet melodic. This leaves the audience to feel either a) whimsical or b) creeped out. The Deftones have a sound that resembles tool, except with less harshness and more feeling. Chino's voice is very soft and pretty, but it's the heavy background guitars that give his voice and the overall sound an eerie glow. For whatever you are into, the Deftones will feed any music appetite.
