Suicide Machines-Destruction By Definition

1/2

Suicide Machines is a basic punk band. Screaming vocals, anti-name, realistic lyrics, but the main difference is how they incorporate ska into their punk sound. Somehow, they make it work. Well, at least on this album. On their second album, Battle Hymns, it's a different story.

Their sound is original and creative. Not many special solos, but there are many catchy riffs. The drums, which usually don't get much attention, are exceptionally good. Within most of the songs there is a change of pace and sound from punk to ska. Somehow, they pull this off well. The even get a little singy-songy in Islands.

The lyrics are realistic and about normal life problems. The Real You is about relationships and Face Values is dedicated to your ordinary poseur. Vans Song is a great ode, to the shoe brand. There's also a great cover song, I Don't Wanna Hear It.

There is nothing very special about this album but not bad for a debut, I personally think ti's better than their lastest release. If you're into the punk sound, then i bet you'll enjoy this album.

Best thing about the album: Change from punk to ska.
Worst thing about the album: Too many quick changes
Best song(s): Islands, SOS, Vans Song, Hey Ska!, No Face
Worst song(s): None.
