TRAVEL ALERT
South Farm Lane is closed from Wilson Road to Mt. Hope Road.
Service Road (an east-west road on the south side) is also closed from Harrison Rd. to Bogue Street.
Other Points of Information (and Precautions)
The MSU campus has many activities taking place on campus on April 26 besides MSO. Use caution when crossing streets and when driving on campus - there are many marked pedestrian crossings.
Also be aware that there is a MSU sponsored testing program taking place in Bessey Hall so please refrain from excessive noise in the area. (Bessey Hall is on Farm Lane directly across from the auditorium and also across the street from the Kezie complex.)

Awards Ceremony
The Awards Ceremony returns to the MSU Auditorium this year. The auditorium has been renovated, with improved seating and a new sound system. However, because the seating is limited, we ask that teams strictly adhere to a maximum of 16 people per team (15 team members plus head coach). You may view your team's assigned area by clicking on the link below:
Awards Ceremony Team Assigned Seating
-
We ask that all people attending the awards ceremony assist us in making this an enjoyable experience for all by observing the following:
1. Make certain you remember your school banner for the Parade of Schools and that only two team members carry this banner in the parade.
2. Make certain each team in an assigned area has access to an aisle so award winners can easily get to the stage.
3. Team alternates and all other people from the school should please sit in the balcony.
4. Teams and all other attendees should refrain from using loud noise makers such as air horns, etc. You are inside and it gets hard enough to hear the announcers without these items being used. (Save their use for your ride home!)
5. Before you leave the ceremony for the evening please pick up all trash and place in a designated container. (MSO is charged for the amount of time it takes to clean up after our event, so help us keep your dues from going up extra to cover this.)
Coaches Reception
Please also note that a Coaches' Reception will again take place from 3:00 to 4:30 PM in the lobby of the MSU Auditorium. This is sponsored by Shell Oil Company, who is again sponsoring scholarship opportunities for MSO high school juniors who are medal winners or members of the 1st to 4th place teams in Division C.
Come join us for some hot and cold snacks - All coaches from both divisions are welcome!
Team Preparation Comments
-
MSU laboratory policy requires not only the wearing of splash-proof goggles but also that occupants of the room be wearing closed-toe shoes and have adequate protection covering their legs. This requirement will likely be enforced in all rooms in the Chemistry Building, the Bio-medical Physical Science Building (BPS), and North Kedzie (except room 133, 134 and 135).

Event Clarifications
-
Cell phone use is prohibited during all events. Make certain all of your electronic devices (such as cell phones, Ipods, PDAs, etc.) are turned off prior to entering the competition area. Any use of any of these devices will result in a disqualification from that event. You cannot even look at your cell phone to check the time. Bring along a watch to keep track of the time.

- Herpetology (Division C)/ Amphibians and Reptiles (Division B)
The MSO State event will follow the Official List of amphibians, reptiles and turtles as posted on the NSO website; however, there will be an emphasis on Michigan species. Please follow the links below for a Herpetology Checklist and a Herpetology Table to assist in your preparation:

- Balloon Launch Glider-Division B (please click on this link to access a picture of IM West Gym 2 as well as the dimensions of the gym.)
1. Launch rigs are allowed but may NOT add energy after the launch (ie., no fan blowing on the glider). If something besides the glider leaves the rig, such as a rubber band, then the first thing to hit the ground stops the timing.
2. Remember, each team must provide their own balloon for launching and helium will not be available on-site for refilling balloons.
- Wright Stuff - Division C (please click on this link to access a picture of IM West Gym 3 as well as dimensions of the gym.)
1. Impounding of the motors will occur directly after the motors are weighed during the check of the airplane. This will occur directly before the team competes.
2. The time from 8:00 to 9:00 AM will be used for test flights only; no impoundng will occur during this first hour.
3. Spectactors will be allowed to enter and exit the gym only between flights, and will be limited to a small part of the gym separated from the rest of the floor by standoffs and tape.
4. There will be a separate cordoned-off area for storage of equipment that will be entered only by team members provided there is no running or interfering with ongoing flights. Abuse of this may result in removal from the gym except for scheduled flight time.
