Wednesday, September 12:  Brother / Брат (1997, 99 min) Upon discharge from the army, Danila Bagrov travels to St. Petersburg to visit his brother, a hired killer.  Danila quickly learns the business and takes on the mafia, at the same time falling in love and enjoying the music of Nautilus Pompilius. 

 

Wednesday, September 26: Of Freaks and Men / Про уродов и людей (1998, 93 min).  A tale of morality and pornography in turn of the century St Petersburg.  Johann and his assistant Victor worm their way into the lives of two noble families, drawing them and others into their enterprise.  Some nudity. 

 

Wednesday, October 10:  Brother 2 / Брат 2 (2000, 122 min) In this sequel, Danila travels to the United States to save the hockey-player brother of a friend from the US branch of the mafia. 

 

Wednesday, October 24: War / Война (2002, 120 min) A British tourist is kidnapped by Chechens, and her husband is forced to turn to Russians for help when their government refuses to intercede.    

 

Wednesday, November 7: Dead Man’s Bluff / Жмурки (2005, 105 min).  In a provincial Russian town, brothers Simon and Sergei work for the local mafia.  After messing up a drug deal, they are forced to search the town to recover their suitcase.  In the course of their search they discover that mafia, police, and politics are closely connected in Russia.   

 

Wednesday, November 28:  It Doesn’t Hurt / Мне не больно (2006, 100 min).   Three young friends, hoping to earn money, offer their design services to another young woman.  This meeting changes their lives forever…
