ProGRAM Facilitators

 

Dr. Wafa Hassan: Dr. Wafa Hassan is a graduate of the George Washington University, Graduate School of Education and Human Development with a specialty in Bilingual Education.  She worked as K-12 Curriculum Supervisor and Director of Education at the Saudi Academy in Fairfax, Virginia.
She is a member of the National Standards for Learning Arabic K-16 Task Force.  She conducted workshops for teachers of Arabic on a regular basis in the States and internationally.  These workshops included many subjects on pedagogy, second language acquisition, bilingual education, teaching children with learning difficulties, learning styles, motivation, and curriculum and materials development.  She has given summer institutes, workshops, and presentations with NCLRC, on teaching Arabic over the past six years.  Recently, she conducted a STARTALK training program for Teachers of Arabic in Michigan.  She is currently the Outreach Academic Specialist for the Arabic Language Instruction Program at Michigan State University.  She is developing Arabic Curriculum for high school students cooperatively with Dearborn Public Schools.

Kathleen McBroom: Kathleen McBroom is the Teacher Leader for World Languages for the Dearborn Public Schools.  A frequent presenter at ACTFL and other national conferences, and the author of numerous professional journal articles on teaching, learning styles, and information literacy, she is also a member of the National Standards for Learning Arabic K-16 Task Force.  Kathleen has studied extensively at the University of Nice, holds a BA in French from Michigan State University plus master degrees from Wayne State and the University of Michigan.
