    LOCAL RACES top
31 Libertarians have been elected to local offices in several states including Michigan. Michael Corliss the LP candidate for US senate in Michigan recieved 29,823 votes or 1%. Congratulations to the Corliss Campaign! Just about every other race state wide had a Libertarian candidate with 1% or 2% of the vote. Congratulations to all! To get the full story check out www.voter.com. Also about 3.3 million individual Americans voted for Libertarian candidates. The U.S. House candidates recieved a record combined total of 1.66 million votes nation wide. No other third party has ever even broken the 1 million mark.

    BROWNE CAMPAIGN top
Harry Browne won about 382,000 votes nationalally. He recieved 17,379 votes in Michigan. This represents about 0.4% of the popular vote. Browne finished fith behind Nader and Buchanan. The goal going into the election was to get 1,000,000 votes and to beat Buchanan. Although Browne fell short of both of these goals we are pleased with the results. The closeness of the election certainly hurt third parties. What troubles me is that there are 200,000 registered Libertarians. That means if every one of them voted for Browne then each person only managed to get 1 other person to vote Libertarian. We can do better. I certainly don't want to take away from the hard work of the Libertarians who built our base up to 200,00 and strive everyday for a freer America. I'm speaking to the rest of us. Please talk to your friends and family about Libertarian ideas. We've got 4 years for each one of us to get just 4 people to vote Libertarian and we can break the 1 million mark. Its up to you.

    WAR ON DRUGS top
6 of 8 drugs reform measures have passes nation wide. This is a huge step in the right direction to end the War on Drugs. In California, voters approved Proposition 36, which requires treatment rather than prison for first- and second-time drug offenders. In Oregon, a proposal that would prohibit asset forfeiture without a conviction was passing with 66% of the vote, with 70% of the vote counted. In Utah, voters passed the Property Protection Act, which forbids police from seizing and selling property involved in a crime in which the owner is not involved, by a margin of 69% to 31%. In Colorado, voters approved Constitutional Amendment 20, which will legalize medical marijuana, with a 53% majority. In Nevada, voters approved Question 9 with a resounding 67% of the vote. The measure gives doctors who prescribe medical marijuana protection under the state constitution.
