Eastern Africa
Eastern Africa is home to the African Rift Valley, and the series of lakes and gorges that come with it.  Because of its unique, yet ideal, geological conditions, Eastern Africa is looked on by many as the paleoanthropology's hot spot.  Of all the world's regions, Eastern Africa provides us with the greatest diversity of fossil hominids.

Hominids found in Eastern Africa:

     Ardipithecus ramidus

     Australopithecus anamensis

     Australopithecus afarensis

     Kenyanthropus platyops

     Australopithecus garhi

     Paranthropus boiseii

     Paranthropus aethiopicus

     Homo habilis

     Homo rudolfensis

     Homo ergaster

     Homo heidelbergensis
