HISTORY
The Faculty Women's Association was established at MSU in 1939 to provide support for female faculty and encourage interdepartmental contacts. Throughout the 1950's and 1960's, the FWA sponsored luncheons, speaker series, and fund raisers for undergraduate and graduate student scholarships. FWA took on an activist role in the 1970's and lobbied for gender equality in faculty salaries. In addition, members of FWA were involved in establishing the Women's Studies Program, The Women's Advisory Committee to the Provost, and an Office of Women's Programs. FWA became FPWA in 1984, recognizing the contributions of specialists and administrative-professional staff. Today, FPWA continues to support female faculty and professionals at MSU.
