Our Mission: The MSU Student Food Bank is intended to provide supplemental food and other necessities for students and their families who are in need of this type of support.

Food Bank at a Glance:

  • The MSU Student Food Bank is the only known food bank in the nation that is run by students, for students.
  • Has assisted MSU students in need since 1993!
  • We have a unique relationship with the American Red Cross that allows us to purchase food at a significantly reduced price, averaging $0.31 per pound. This saves us 80% compared to the national wholesale cost of food.
    • A $25 donation buys approximately 80 pound of food - 16 bags of groceries.
    • A $50 donation buys approximately 161 pounds of food - 32 bags of groceries.
    • A $100 donation buys approximately 322 pounds of food - 64 bags of groceries.
    • A $500 donation buys approximately 1612 pounds of food - 322 bags of groceries.
  • The MSU Student Food Bank operates on charitable donations received from community members and organizations.

Maintains a very small overhead so that donated funds can go to assist those in need, our clients.

  • Provides volunteer leadership opportunities for over 200 students each year.
  • Serves over 3,500 clients per year.
  • The MSU Student Food Bank distributes about 31,000 pounds of food annually to MSU students and their families (that’s 6,200 5 lb. bags of food)
  • Regularly offers these food items: Bread, Canned Fruit, Canned Vegetables, Canned Soup, Pasta, Rice, and Cereal.
  • Commonly offers these items: Peanut Butter, Tuna or Canned Salmon, Dry or Canned Beans, Macaroni & Cheese, Fresh Vegetables, Fresh Fruit, Bake Mixes, Crackers, Microwave Popcorn, Desserts, Toothpaste, Toothbrushes and more!
