Activities

In addition to the social and educational activities of the MSU Dairy Club, the club has 2 primary purposes. The first is to promote the dairy industry and the second is to increase the contact between the members of the Dairy Club and the Michigan dairy industry.

Each year the MSU Dairy Club runs an “I Milked a Cow” booth at both Project R.E.D (Rural Education Day) and at the College of Ag and Natural Resources Small Animals Day in the Spring.  Both of these activities help to promote the dairy club as well as the dairy industry as a whole.  Club members work with children (and their parents sometimes too!) and teach them how to milk a cow and answer any questions that they might have.

The annual Recognition Banquet serves to bring students, alumni, dairy industry organizations, parents, and dairy farmers together to recognize the efforts of outstanding students, alumni, and industry leaders. This banquet has provided a needed link between student and potential employer and, therefore, serves an important function for Michigan's dairy industry.

The annual Spartan Spectacular Calf Sale, held during the Michigan spring show, is one of our major fundraisers second only to our Holiday Cheese Sale.  The heifers sold in the sale are hand picked by club members with the help of the sale manager, and are cared for by the members during the week of the sale.  Although the sale has only been running for a few years, it already has a reputation for providing high quality heifers for both show and production.
