I work as
a Research Assistant II for Michigan State University's Dept. of
Entomology, in the Computational Ecology and Visualization Laboratory.
My
primary functions are in support of the national Forest Service
project, Slow the Spread of the Gypsy Moth.
Slow the Spread
encompasses the States of IL, IN, KY, MI, MN, NC, OH, VA, WI and WV.
The project sets about 90,000 traps annually to monitor the leading
front of this insects' expansion. My Laboratory and sister node at
Virginia Polytechnic
Institute provide GIS and IT support to the participating states to
assist in effective treatment plans based upon trap data and decision
algorithms.
You can read
more about the program here.
