First Cut Video Tryout Requirements:
Due March 31, 2008: Those individuals with previous cheerleading experience must submit a video to be invited to formal tryouts in April. Current team members are excluded from this submission. Those without prior cheerleading experience are required to attend a minimum of four open workout sessions in lieu of video entry. Click here to qualify.
It is mandatory to include proof of enrollment for the upcoming fall semester to Michigan State and proof of medical insurance including the policy number. Acceptable proof of medical insurance is a Xerox of insurance cards, or an official letter from the participating insurance company stating coverage. A $15 tryout fee is required to verify application information, university enrollment, and grades. Please include checks made out to "Michigan State University". Videos will only be returned upon request.
These three form must be filled out and submitted with your video
- Medical Release Waiver
- Pre-Participation Health History/Physical Form
- Waiver of Medical Liability
**Only videos submitted on DVD will be considered.**
Skills/items to include on the video:
- Tumbling skills: Standing back handspring, standing back tuck, standing back handspring back tuck (connected) and a tumbling pass. Please include all these skills using spotters as needed.
- Stunting skills: Show a minimum of toss and walkup hands if coed stunts are included. When all-girl stunting is only available please include extended stunts, transitions and twist dismounts if applicable. Ladies trying out must be the top or flier. Ladies as a base only in stunts will receive a zero in this category. A combination of coed and all-girl stunts is also appropriate.
- Cheer: Include a cheer demonstrating sharp motions and voice inflections.
- Dance/Fight song: Dance and/or fight song should demonstrate coordination, rhythm, voice inflection and spirited attitude. This may be choreography from a previous team, or you may create motions to the MSU Fight Song.

For consideration, videos MUST NOT exceed four minutes in length.
First cuts will be judged based on the sample judging scales. Results will be posted April 4, 2008. There will be an Open gym, for those that have qualified for Formal Tryouts, on April 6, 2008.
ALL videos must be in our office no later than March 31, 2008.
