Formal Tryouts are Friday, April 11, 2008 through Sunday, April 13, 2008

Formal Tryout Requirements:

Open workouts and Formal Tryouts will be held at Jenison Fieldhouse gymnastics gym (3rd Floor) unless otherwise noted.  Ladies attire should consist of snug-fitting tops and shorts. Gentlemen should wear athletic style shorts and appropriate tee shirts. You may be asked to remove or change baggy tee shirts or sloppy athletic shorts for safety reasons.  Please take in to consideration the material presented on the shirts as well. Obscenities and derogatory comments are not appropriate.

Reminder: you must submit a tryout video to qualify for Formal Tryouts.  Videos will be judged and invitations will go out within one week of the video submission deadline.  Please click here for video information.

The proper attire for the final day is the same criteria as above, but green and white attire is strongly recommended. Remember, you will be judged on appearance so consider clothing that is appealing and appropriate to become a member of the MSU Cheerleading Team.  Absolutely no jewelry will be allowed.

Stunts:  You are required to do a toss chair, toss shoulders, toss hands-pump and go extension, heel stretch with a full cradle, plus an optional stunt including a transition.

Tumbling:  You are required to do a standing back handspring, a standing back tuck and a tumbling pass.  Females are also required to do a toe touch. You may connect the jump and standing tumbling moves if desired.

Cheer:  Will be taught on first day.

Fight Song:  Will be taught on first day.  The fight song will be taught to words, so it is recommended that you are familiar with the words and tune.

Formal Tryout attendance is mandatory.  All those planning to tryout for the 2008-2009 MSU Cheerleading Team MUST be present to tryout in front of the judging panel.  No exceptions can be made.  Remember to bring proof of medical insurance including the policy number.  Acceptable proof of medical insurance is a Xerox of insurance cards, or an official letter from the participating insurance company stating coverage.  Those under the age of 18 will need a parent present to sign a waiver form.

You will not be excused from any of the Formal Tryout sessions. Failure to be present at all three tryout sessions will result in a forfit of your tryout.
