Bob van Wely

Bob van Wely (b. 1962)
is City Carillonneur for the northern Dutch cities of Almere, Velsen
and Amsterdam-Slotermeer. He began his carillon studies in 1976 with
Arie Abbenes and in 1984 enrolled at The
Netherlands Carillon School, completing his studies with
Bernard Winsemius.
He received his performance degree from the school in 1989. Appointed
carillonneur for Almere in 1985, van Wely also assumed that position for
Velsen in 1989 and Slotermeer in 1996. Winner of several carillon competitions,
he also placed third in September of 1993 in the Queen Fabiola Competition in
Mechelen, Belgium, and first in the improvisation contest. Bob van Wely
is a certified architectural engineer and runs a carillon consultancy
organization together with his colleague Henk Verhoef.
The restoration of the 17th century carillon and the new grand carillon of
Amersfoort occurred under their supervision.
