Ray McLellan
University Carillonneur

Ray McLellan      Ray McLellan was appointed University Carillonneur in 1997 at Michigan State University. He teaches and performs on the 49-bell Beaumont Tower Carillon and directs the Muelder Summer Carillon Recital Series.

     McLellan earned degrees at Florida Southern College (Bachelor of Arts) in Lakeland and the University of Michigan (Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts) in Ann Arbor, where he began carillon studies with Margo Halsted in 1989. He also studied for one year, on full scholarship, at the Pädagogische Hochschule in Freiburg, Germany and earned a certificate for carillon study at the Netherlands Carillon School in Amersfoort as a student of Todd Fair.

     Dr. McLellan has performed recitals in many parts of the United States and Canada. He serves on the Examination Committee and is chair of the nominations committee for the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America.

     In addition to his academic work, he is the Director of Music for St. Michael's Church and the Organist at Temple Beth Emeth in Ann Arbor.
