David Johnson
Visiting Performer

     David Johnson has been carillonneur at House of Hope Presbyterian Church, St. Paul, Minnesota since 1993. He grew up in Wausau, Wisconsin, where he studied piano and organ with Leonard Selm, and was a church organist for many years. He has studied carillon with Margo Halsted at the University of Michigan, and in 1996 attained "carillonneur" status in the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America. He did his undergraduate work at Hamline University in St. Paul, received his M.A. (History) from Stanford University and his Ph.D. (American Intellectual History) from the University of Kansas. He taught history at Pacific Lutheran University, is the author of two histories of Hamline, and is writing a history of House of Hope. He is currently Vice President for Programs at the Minnesota Medical Foundation, University of Minnesota.
