My main interest is to gain a better understanding of how agents, both artificial and biological, make a series of sequential decisions to obtain important goals in their environment. While I was a graduate student here in the Zoology and Cognitive Science programs at MSU I had the rare opportunity to study sequential decision making tasks in both honey bees, humans and mobile robots. Most of my experimental work has focused on both short and long range visual navigation in the honey bee Apis mellifera. In addition I have performed experiments dealing with human visual control. Many of the theoretical questions guiding this work, as well as my current research, stem from a collaboration with colleagues in the Computer Science department who design mobile robots.
