ALERT!!!!!

October 17-31 - Please Click above for Details!!
The grand adventure each and every October is
to find the scariest, most outrageous haunted house. We are a part of that
group which starts in early October to find that
Holy Grail. We are looking for the "ten story get your money at the end
haunt."
It may be a figment of our collective imagination
but someday I will find it.
I like the beginning of the season best. Actors
are fresh, the haunts paint jobs are still wet and the rawness of the routines
allows for great improvisational moments.
The owner/creators look out at you with a look of anticipation. We are
their judges, juries;
critic all wrapped into one. What we report back
to our friends will make them or break them.
"She looks like a screamer" an older woman whispers
to an actor who runs back to tell the minions in back. If any motivation
speech works in a haunted house those words do.
They wait for us. We the few, the chosen, the screamers. And if treated
right I scream all right. I once screamed
so hard and long that my vocal chord gave out so I could only croak.
"She looks like a croaker" doesn’t have the same
motivational ring. So I was happy when my vocal chords returned the next
day.Haunted houses are everywhere. Created by
little kids in their basement, in huge Expo centers by large corporations,
in tents by vagabonds of ex ren fair groupies
or in private homes by the truly possessed.
Each has its own special taste, it’s own special
experience. So this is what this is all about. The adventure we call haunting.
Haunting for haunts. We are the few, the brave,
the Haunted. And this is a diary of our adventures of searching for the
perfect
scare. Stay tune, we have a lot to unload on
you.
We have our car. It is a station wagon. It will
fit 6 comfortably. We will stick 14 people in it. We have our maps - they
have all
the local Taco Bells marked. They are a big supporter
of haunts, so they will know were some of the biggest are and if they
don’t their customers will. We have downloads
from Haunted Americas’ Haunted Pages, it is one of the few places to get
the
correct hours and map to our intended destinations.
We have our radio tuned to the hip station, to hear commercials on
possible new haunts and, of course, cool tunes.
And today we add a special weapon to our arsenal – the cell phone. We know
four other groups going out. We have their cell
phone numbers and on the half-hour we give them a call – to check up on
what
they have found out, and we act accordingly.
We are ready; the journey is about to begin. The
sun is setting in the Autumn sky. The leaves crunch beneath my feet. And
I
can imagine the smell of gasoline and chainsaw
oil in the distance. I want to scream. Oh yes, I am wearing my Depends.
(Quoted From Haunted America's Carrie..)
Halloween,also
known as All Hallows Eve, Oct. 31,is the night that
the veil
between the realms of the living and the dead is at its
thinnest,when
the dead return to once again walk amongst the living!!
The night of Oct.31 is seen as the night that the earth herself
passes into death, becoming dormant and still,as the harsh autumn
winds moan and howl, cold and lifeless, through the naked, stiffened
branches of trees once green and alive in the warmth of the summer
sun, which is now only a fading memory.
Death enshrouds the once vibrant earth, embracing her with it's
silent cold on All Hallows Eve.
Believing that ones dead loved ones, ancestors, friends or any wayward
soul would return on that night, the ancients began the tradition of
placing plates of the finest food and bits of treats that the
household had to offer on their doorsteps,as gifts,to appease the
hunger of the ghostly wanderers, hence, one of the traditions that
paved the way for the modern tradition of Trick or Treats.
(it's said to bring good luck in the upcoming year to give out only
the best, that you will reap what you sow)
The problem was... if the souls of dead loved ones could return that
night,so could anything else,human or not,nice or not-so-nice ,hence
the tradition of putting out Jack o' lanterns.
The Jack o' lantern, originally a turnip,is now usually a
pumpkin, carved with intricate, scowling faces and illuminated with
wax candles from within.
Placed on the dwellings doorstep,it was originally used to scare
away any malignant spirits/demons that happened by the home.It was
said that if a demon or such were to encounter something as fiendish
looking as themselves that they'd run away in terror, thus sparing
the houses dwellers from the ravages of dark entities.
The spirits of the dead loved ones or just regular human spirits
wouldn't be offended by the Jack o' lantern though, since they would
already be aware of its purpose, having been human before
death, they'd have carved them once themselves.
Incidentally, the tradition of Gargoyles carved into buildings and
such has a similar purpose,to scare away evil entities.

My favorite season is here again
with tricks and treats for one and all.
Soon may the heat of summer pass,
and usher in the chill of fall!
So when you hear the lone wolves howl
and ghoulish voices' eerie calls,
you'll know where I'll be surely found,
a-haunting these familiar halls.
And if 'tis frightful fun
you seek,
be you small or
be you tall,
your spirits will rise with ghostly glee,
come join us at our Halloween Ball!
Happy
Halloweeeeeen!
(special thanks for the verse by Doug Ferguson)
