This is an introduction page, used to explain the layout of the actual map. While the map does work, a full page version follows this page.

Five symbols will race down a generalized map of the AuSable River.

The lead symbol represents the top three canoes. Throughout the race these three were within minutes of each, usually within seconds. The second represents the 4th and 5th place canoes. While they did fall several minutes behind the leaders, they managed to stay relatively close to the leaders and were within seconds of each other during the course of the race.

The third symbol is a race favorite, Al Widing, Sr. Mr. Widing turned 80 this past year. Mr. Widing has paddled in 35 prior AuSable Marathons. The fourth represents the only all female team this year. Finally, the last symbol represents canoe #72. Someone has to be last. Canoe 72 was the last canoe to finish the race, throughout the race they were either last or within a few minutes of being the last canoe.

The buttons in the lower left corner toggle different layers that may be turned on or off during the animation. In the center are controls for operating the animation. You may play the animation, reset the animation, or jump to the conclusion of the race.

The legend box contains rollovers listing the members of the targeted canoes. Additionally rolling over the expected leader arrival time will reveal the actual arrival times at each checking point.

I hope you enjoy this animation as much as I did making it. If you are ready press the HERE!
