The
Unitarian Universalist Church of Greater Lansing has a vibrant and growing music program.
The congregation loves to sing, utilizing both our UU hymnal, Singing the Living
Tradition, and the new hymnal supplement, Singing the Journey, published in 2005.
The Adult Choir, led by Director of Music
Rachel Alexander
and accompanied by pianist Stuart Foster. The UUCGL Adult
Choir rehearsals are held each Thursday night from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the Assembly Hall.
All are welcome and invited to join us, with or without prior choral singing experience.
The choir sings in one service most Sundays between September and mid-June (alternating
between the early and late services). A few times a year we sing in both services, and
approximately one Sunday per month is a choir day off.
All are welcome to join the Adult Choir,
with no prior choral experience required. The choir performs an eclectic mix of music,
ranging from the Western European choral tradition to contemporary world folk music, with
many stops in between.
Singing in our choir provides opportunities for musical
exploration and growth, shared adventure, and service to this community and we have a
lot of fun together besides! For more information, or to let me know youll be
joining us, please contact Director of Music Rachel Alexander at: ralexander@uulansing.org.
The Youth Choir, under the direction of
Marcy Christoff, performs several times a year, with a number of weekly rehearsals
preceding each performance. Children and youth in grades kindergarten through high school
may join the Youth Choir.
Other music regularly heard in our church
services includes piano solos, vocal or instrumental solos, and vocal or instrumental
ensembles.
