The Knitting Guild Association estimates 53
million people in the nation can knit or crochet, a 51 percent increase from a decade ago.
And a Craft Yarn Council of America poll found that from 2002 to 2004, there was a 150
percent increase among women ages 25 to 34 who picked up knitting. (Mary Kaye Ritz,
Honolulu Advertiser Religion & Ethics Writer). Who knew? We just thought it was fun!
Bernadette Murphy in "Zen and the
Art of Knitting," writes: "Knitting taps into my creative brain and uncovers
untold treasures. In the sweaters I make for others, I gently pass on my positive desires
for their lives; these garments give warmth while embracing the wearer in a
hundred-thousand little prayers. And when I knit for myself, the resulting sweater is a
tangible reminder that I can make my own warmth in what is often a cold world. When I
knit, as when I write, I find myself in ecstatic participation in a divinely animated
world."
For more information, talk with Deb or Tina in
the Grove Street Book Store on Sunday mornings.
THE PIECEMAKERS
A new group of quilters met on January 30, 2006 to share and plan projects. If you are
an undiscovered quilter and would like to join us, please call Joanne Cameron.
