Grove Street Book Store

Located just off the Fireplace Room in the UU Church

ABOUT THE BOOK SHOP

Grove Street Book Shop (GSBS), established in 1995, is a volunteer-run fundraising effort of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Great Lansing. We carry quality used books, donated by members and friends, as well as selected titles of new books that enhance our understanding of Unitarian Universalism and our world.

Profits from sales of used books, and approximately 20% of the cover price of new books, generate funds that revert to the general fund of the church at the end of the fiscal year. The board of trustees determines how yearly profits will be used to benefit our church community.

Almost a dozen ways you can help
UUCGL’s Grove Street Book Shop

  1. Buy Used! The paper back books in the built in shelves are 30 cents, hardbacks are 60 cents each. . . which is still the best bargain in town. We have recent titles of gently used books on Sunday mornings, priced $ 1- $5.

  2. When you make a purchase, round the amount up to the nearest dollar.

  3. Donate your used books. Bring books on Sunday mornings or, during the week, leave them under a table in the book shop. If you would like a receipt, contact Deb Bennett with the number of books donated.

  4. Magazines are free. GSBS offers a magazine exchange of issues one or two months old. Bring one, take two.

  5. Any book you can buy through Schuler Books and Music, GSBS can order for you. UUCGL will usually benefit from 20% of the cover price.

  6. We carry many books by the Unitarian Universalist Association’s Beacon Press and Skinner Press. Order your books through Grove Street and you’ve done two good things.
  1. Volunteer to work on Sunday morning shelving or selling books. The fiction and mystery sections are organized alphabetically by author. Other sections vary.
  1. Help support our annual October Schuler Days Fundraiser.
  1. After hours, purchase a book , pick up a copy of a sermon and leave a donation in the wooden box.
  1. Give a GSBS Gift Certicate. Certificates can be used for purchases and there’s no expiration date. Check with Deb Bennett for details.
  1. Please keep coffee cups off the new book table and book shelves. Spills are expensive.

Nearly new and new books, which are in the locking shelves and on the book table, are priced as marked.

GSBS has Schuler Gift cards available for purchase. For each $10 spent, $2.00 benefits UUCGL and you get to support this congregation as well as a great local bookstore.

As always, Happy Reading
