Janette, a Nicaraguan Girl

Hi, my name is Janette. I am twelve years old. I live in Nicaragua on a small farm with my parents, brothers and sisters, and cousins. My oldest sister is 31 years old, my youngest brother is eight. There are twelve of us brothers and sisters!

My family's farm is part of a cooperative, where a group of farmers work together. We raise cows, chickens, corn, beans, rice, bananas, and coconuts.

I go to school in a small school with my brother Antonio, my sister Patricia, and many of my cousins. My father is the teacher at the school.

Around our house is rainforest that I visit sometimes. We have to cut some trees down occasionally to make chairs for the school or fix our house.

The thing I'm holding is a fruit from a tree called Poponjoche.
