I enjoyed reading this interview with Omar, where he explains a little bit about playing baseball as a kid in Venezuela. Here's a recent interview and another good interview, from a few years ago. During the 1999 playoffs, Omar teamed up with the Akron-Beacon Journal in Omar's Corner.

My favorite Q&A was why he wears number 13. Thirteen has always been my favorite number, since long before Omar was my favorite player. I found out that his hero and favorite player wore number 13 - Davey Concepcion, shortstop of the 1970s-1980s Cincinnati Reds. Concepcion is also a Venezuelan player. Only one player from Venezuela has been named to the Baseball Hall of Fame - Luis Aparicio, also a shortstop. I think it's a foregone conclusion that Omar will join him one day! Here's a listing of other Venezuelan major leaguers.
