On May 6-1, 2002, a delegation from the University of Mali's College of Agriculture (IPR/IFRA) visited MSU. This visit was highly productive. Discussions were held with over 50 colleagues to explore possible collaborative work in research, teaching and outreach. The visit to MSU was followed by a trip to Washington and New York, where they met with representatives of USAID, the World Bank, USDA, IFPRI, and the Rockefeller Foundation. Our Malian colleagues, with input from some us at MSU, have developed a planning grant request, which they are have submitted to the World Bank office in Bamako
In November, 2002, MSU, through the Institute of International Agriculture, developed a proposal to the Association Liaison Office (ALO) for a collaborative project between MSU and IPR/IFRA to strengthen that school's 2-year agricultural technology program (known as the BAC + 2 program). In February, 2003, ALO announced it was funding that program.
