A huge majority (77%) of you like or love living on Jones; and 23% don’t mind living here. None of you dislike it. All of you reported talking to your neighbors either fairly often or very often. Eight-five percent (85%) of you said that there is someone on your block that you particularly like. In fact, nearly half of you reported feeling that your sense of community on Jones is "just about right."
The most striking thing about this block is the positive level of connection you seem to have with each other. Nearly half of you said that the respectful neighbors and communication with each other contributes most to your sense of community on this block. Seventy percent (70%) of you said that residents on Jones attend the same churches or places of worship. Sixty-two percent (62%) of you agreed residents here like each other, and 70% of you said people on this block know each other. Nearly half of you talk to each other about community problems. These are GREAT qualities for a block to have!
We were generally left with the impression that Jones is a quiet, friendly street, with little crime. Seventy-seven percent (77%) of you feel it is safe to walk on your street at night, and 62% feel it is a safe place to live.
Many of you (62%) knew this block is part of a neighborhood organization.
There is concern about kids being involved in gangs and drug activity. The majority of you (93%), however, say there is less crime on Jones than on other blocks in the neighborhood or city.
Another plus is that 43% of you mentioned that there is an adult at home during the day. Those of you who stay at home have the important role of watching out for your block!
Working Together
An overwhelming 92% of you are interested in working with your neighbors to improve conditions on Jones. And, 23% of you indicated your interest in assuming a leadership role on the block! With this level of interest, any of you who would like to start a community project should be able to find lots of help! Some of the ideas you suggested include:
The main point we’d like to leave with you is that Jones is a GREAT block where people respect and watch out for each other. There are some concerns, but there are also many of you who would like to work together to make Jones even better.
