The Global Change Utility can be used to perform tasks such as reassigning the contents of USMARC fields or subfields that have become obsolete; replacing obsolete codes for the leader and fixed fields; correcting obsolete indicators; changing personal names, organization names or other text to their currently used wording; and adding a USMARC field to selected records of your database.

The Global Change Utility makes the following types of changes to records in the existing database. Whenever a change is made, the auxiliary indexes are automatically updated using this utility.

• Change or replace text in any variable length field(s) or subfield(s)
• Add text to any field(s) or subfield(s)
• Delete text from any field(s) or subfield(s)
• Change indicators for selected text in field(s)
• Add a subfield(s) to selected field(s)
• Delete a subfield from selected field(s)
• Replace leader or fixed field codes
• Change a USMARC tag
• Change USMARC indicators
• Change subfield codes
• Add a new field to the database including the USMARC tag number, indicators, subfield codes and text
• Delete a field in the database including the USMARC tag number, indicators, subfield codes and text
• Split a USMARC field into two or more USMARC fields
