Community Outreach
 
As student-athletes, we recognize the importance of outreach and service to our community. It is a responsibility that we are proud and honored to participate in. Every year, we partake in numerous service programs in an effort to give back to the people that so enthusiastically support us.
 
Programs we have taken part in include:
 
  • Lansing Lugnutz Charity Softball benefiting St. Vincent's Home for Children.
  • Project Read at Donley Elementary School
  • MSU Athletes 4 Kids, an overnight retreat in which area kids have the opportunity to play sports and just 'hang out' at the Michigan Athletic Club with student-athletes.
  • Along with other MSU athletic teams, we donated our time and money to purchase, wrap, and hand deliver holiday gifts to an underprivileged family.
  • As athletes, we regularly visit elementary schools to talk about the value of getting involved in sports.
  • For an MSU student's community service project, we participated with other athletic teams in an elementary schools assembly where we performed and read to the students.
  • Have performed in the past for the annual Daddy-Daughter Dance at the Hannah Community Center.

The team walked the track with many others in order to raise money for the cause. Members pose with Coach John L. Smith at the annual Meet the Spartans event held at the Meridian Mall.
Members Angela and Justine talk to a classroom about the importance of reading. The team performed the MSU fight song in front of Donley Elementary School students for Project Read.
 
The girls spoke to the students at the Project Read assembly about their aspirations and the role reading played in their lives.
