This is the home of my RuneQuest campaign, located in Griffin
Island. It is a mixte of the classical world of RuneQuest, Glorantha,
and some of the Tolkien mythology.
Griffin Island is a campaign set published by Avalon
Hill/ Chaosium
and based on a previous campaign for RQ 2 called Griffin Mountain. Somehow,
in the process of updating the material, the campaign location was changed
from Balazar to an isolated island, and the bad guys were changed from Lunars
to Orcs! The intrusion of the orcs as one of the
major civilization of the island required some background materials, and
being lazy, I choose to adapte informations published in the I.C.E.
game MERP.
I have also included for your eyes only some of the stunning illustrations from my favorite fantasy artist of all time, Angus McBRIDE. He is the one doing most of the covers of I.C.E. MERP and ROLEMASTER games, and some of the OSPREY military series. I had to reduce the size and quality of the images in order to make them downloadable at a reasonable speed, but if you like these graphics, just imagine that the originals are ten times better! Some of them are available from I.C.E. in a book called "Angus McBride's Characters of ME", ref.#8007.
The Stabbing Cat is the main inn in Nidik, and the headquarter of my players when they return to the civilized world. It is a good place to gather gossip and news, and the usual starting point for another adventure. I have included here
We use the rules of RuneQuest 3 (including the errata...),
with a few modifications in the following topics:
When we play, I like to visualize the situation with miniatures. But because I usually have a lot of monsters, I decided to use the smaller scale of 15 mm. I now have hundreds of them, and I love to paint and modify them. I have three favorite supplier companies: Ral Partha and their magnificent Battlesystem 15 mm miniatures, Grenadier (now defunct alas) with his Warlords 15 mm serie and Essex for the historical figures. Since Glorantha Convention IV in Chicago, I have discovered a new use for my 15 mm figurine collection. It is called RED DEVASTATION, the wargame of Rob Smith and John Medway. I had a lot of fun crushing with my lunar legions another sartarite rebellion and sending the barbarians running back to the Wastes. I have included in the following pages a few informations on Red Devastation.
Alas, with the separation between Avalon Hill and Chaosium, Griffin Island and RuneQuest are in limbo...Under the agreement, Avalon Hill retains all the rights for RuneQuest and Chaosium for Glorantha. Which means that Chaosium will not publish anything using the RuneQuest game system, and Avalon Hill is currently focusing on a new version of RuneQuest called "RuneQuest Slayers" which has almost nothing to do with our good old system. So I guess we'll have to take care of our favorite game by ourselves.

Press Release
Chaosium Inc. and Avalon Hill have officially ended
their fourteen year business relationship. The trademark "Runequest"
and the rules to the Runequest role-playing game are now the sole property
of Avalon Hill. Chaosium Inc. will not ever produce Runequest again. All
of the rights to Glorantha remain the sole property of Chaosium Inc. Avalon
Hill will continue to sell the Gloranthan products it has in stock, but
no future Avalon Hill publications shall be Gloranthan.
When asked for a comment, Chaosium company president Greg Stafford stated,
"This is another step in our own development of a full line of Gloranthan
games and books. Avalon Hill can now pursue their own development and creative
freedom with the Runequest line, and we wish them good luck with it."
I have decided to start a quick list of Griffin Island players and Gamemasters
E-mail addresses, so that we can exchange ideas, rules, scenarios...
If you whish to have your address, ideas, and/or stories of your adventures
added to this site, just send me an E-mail. Hope to hear from you all soon.
Note: I have received
a few request/suggestions about a RuneQuest/Griffin Island list. Unfortunately
I don't have, at this time, the possibility to set a listserver. If you
send me things that I like, I'll manually forward them to the people listed
down below...and try to include them in my pages a little faster than usually
:-)
